With reference to Sir Matthew
Nathan's Despatch No. 26 of the 16th. February last, I
have the honour to inform Your Lordship that the subject
of the installation of a system of Wireless Telegraphy
between Gap Rock and the Colony has been again under con-
-sideration and that the following objections to the scheme
have been put forward by the Harbour Master, viz.:-
(a). Owing to divided control its use by
this Government's Officers would be irregular:
(b). The aerial wire would be certain to be
blown down in typhoon weather thus cutting off com-
-munication when it is most necessary: and
(c). If any vessel with a Wireless Install-
-ation is using such within a distance of 150 miles
all messages would be mutilated.
2.
I am of opinion that there is
much force in these objections. I consider that the Colony
should have a system of communication free from all outside
control
